El Fasher, July 7(Darfur 24)
Seven civilians, including four children, were killed and others were injured on Sunday as the Rapid Support Forces RSF renewed ashelling on the city of El Fasher in North Darfur State.
Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that the RSF launched artillery shelling on the Abu Shouk camp for internally displaced persons and several residential neighborhoods in the western sector of El Fasher.
They indicated that this shelling resulted in the deaths of seven civilians, including four children and a woman, and resulted in the injury of more than ten others, in addition to the destruction of dozens of homes.
Nasr al-Din Ibrahim Yahya, a citizen from the Abu Shouk neighborhood, told Darfur 24 that the artillery shelling on El Fasher today was the most violent of its kind, forcing the majority of residents to take shelter in trenches throughout the day.
He added, “If it weren’t for the trenches and God’s mercy, El Fasher today would have witnessed one of the most horrific massacres.”
Trenches have been constructed in El Fasher to provide protection from shelling, but there are concerns that they will fill with rainwater during the fall, weakening their effectiveness.
Citizen Adam Hassan Ismail told Darfur 24 that they had buried seven dead, including four children and a woman, by 4:00 PM.
Health sources at the Specialized Hospital for Women and Childbirth said the hospital received more than ten wounded, some in critical condition, as a result of artillery shelling on the city today.
The sources warned of the deteriorating conditions of the wounded due to the shortage of medicines and medical supplies at the hospital.
The Rapid Support Forces have been launching continuous attacks on El Fasher since May 10, 2024, in an attempt to seize control of the last Sudanese army stronghold in Darfur.
More than one million people have fled El Fasher, including 781,000 displaced from El Fasher and Zamzam camp, as a result of the ongoing clashes and shelling.
