El Fasher , June 29(Darfur 24)
Four people were killed and others injured Sunday as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) bombed El Fasher, North Darfur State.
Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that RSF intensified their artillery shelling of residential neighborhoods and the livestock market in El Fasher, causing a number of casualties.
Mubarak Musa Ibrahim, a resident of the Awlad al-Reef neighborhood, told Darfur 24 that the artillery shelling of the livestock market and surrounding neighborhoods resulted in the deaths of four people and the injury of six others with varying injuries. They were transferred to the Saudi Specialized Hospital for treatment.
A health source confirmed to Darfur 24 that the Saudi Hospital and the Medical Corps had received a number of wounded over the past three days as a result of the ongoing artillery shelling by the RSF on residential neighborhoods, the most recent of which was the livestock market this morning. However, he did not disclose the number of injured people.
On Friday, Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announced his approval of a UN proposal for a week-long humanitarian truce in El Fasher to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.
RSF have not commented on the truce proposal presented by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
The RSF has been launching attacks on El Fasher since May 10, 2024, in an attempt to seize the last army stronghold in Darfur. However, the army and allied joint forces are fiercely defending the city.
The ongoing conflict in El Fasher has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, with most of the city’s residents now relying on “ambaz”—the leftover peanuts left over after oil extraction—as a source of food.
The RSF maintains a firm grip on large parts of the eastern and some southern neighborhoods of El Fasher, while the army controls the western and northern neighborhoods, the city center, and parts of the southern neighborhoods.
