El Fasher, June 18(Darfur 24)

Unidentified gunmen killed Osman Hassan Saleh, the former youth leader at Abu Shouk camp for internally displaced persons in El Fasher, on Sunday, in front of his home.

Local sources in Abu Shouk IDP camp told Darfur 24 that Osman Hassan Saleh was returning from the Starlink satellite internet shop when gunmen opened fire at him in front of his house killing him on spot and ran away.

The sources assumed that the gunmen had been following him since he left the satellite internet site.

They indicated that Osman’s assassination came two days after he got into an argument with some worshippers in the camp last Friday, after he filmed them after prayers. He was then arrested from the mosque by gunmen and later released.

It is worth noting that Osman Hassan Saleh was an active member of the dissolved National Congress Party of former president Omar Albashur and served as head of the camp’s youth union during the tenure of former North Darfur Governor Mohamed Osman Youssef Kibir.

Most Darfur residents rely on the internet provided by Starlink shops, following the destruction of the region’s infrastructure during the current conflict.
