Al Daein, June 10(Darfur 24)
A report issued by the Health Monitoring Committee at the Ministry of Health in East Darfur State on Monday stated that the cumulative number of suspected cholera cases has risen to 48, including 10 deaths.
The report, reviewed by Darfur 24, stated that five deaths were recorded in El Daein locality, four in Abu Jabara locality, and the tenth death was recorded in Krio refugee camp.
Ali Ibrahim Egheibish, Executive Director of the Ministry of Health in East Darfur State, explained in a press statement that suspected cholera cases were detected in El Daein, Asalaya, Abu Jabara, Adila, and Bahr al-Arab localities.
He indicated that 25 suspected cholera cases were recorded among individuals from refugee camps in South Sudan, out of a total of 48 suspected cases.
Egheibish revealed that three suspected cases were admitted to the isolation center at El Daein Teaching Hospital. These cases were imported from the El Daein refugee camp.
The isolation center lacks the minimum health requirements due to the collapse of the health sector and health institutions in the state, as well as weak funding.
