Nyala, June5( Darfur 24)

Eyewitnesses and medical sources in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, reported on Thursday varying injuries among Rapid Support Forces(RSF) personnel following explosions that struck the city over the past two days.

A series of successive explosions of unknown origin have targeted RSF premises and gatherings in Nyala over the past few days.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that a blast occurred in front of the Military Hospital (Medical Corps) in Nyala last Monday, which they believed was caused by a drone.

The witnesses indicated that they saw a number of injured RSF members being transported to the Specialized and Teaching Hospital after the explosion.

According to the witnesses, “there were RSF gatherings in front of the military hospital affiliated with the 16th Infantry Division.”

A medical source also confirmed to Darfur 24 that 15 injured RSF affiliates had arrived at the Al-Yaqeen Medical Complex following the attack on Nyala International Airport last Sunday. The source added that the injured were among the airport’s guards.

Nyala International Airport witnessed a series of explosions on Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday, targeting the airport’s surroundings, jamming devices, and an early warning system, according to eyewitnesses and three identical sources who spoke to Darfur 24.

Witnesses confirmed that columns of smoke rose from the airport, which is located east of the city.

In this context, a medical source from Nyala revealed the arrival of more than 40 injured RSF personnel from Al-Khawi to Nyala, including officers.

The Sudanese army destroyed a plane at Nyala International Airport last April, killing the crew and members of the Rapid Support Forces who were en route to receive medical treatment outside Sudan.
