Al Daein , May 31(Darfur 24)

Three people were killed and four others injured on Saturday in a shooting incident by gunmen targeting a gathering of citizens in the Al-Quba neighborhood, south of Al Daein, East Darfur State.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that three armed men intercepted a young man as he was returning from the stock market south of El Daein.

They indicated that the armed men, who live in the same neighborhood as the young man, attacked him with the butt of a weapon, causing him to lose consciousness immediately, then looted his weapon.

The witnesses reported that the victim’s family demanded the return of the stolen weapon. Residents of the neighborhood from both sides gathered in front of the armed men’s house to resolve the issue, before one of the armed men opened fire on the crowd.

The witnesses explained that three people, including a woman, were killed instantly, while four others were injured and taken to the city hospital.

A resident of the El Gubba neighborhood, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that the Rapid Support Forces deployed a military force in the neighborhood to separate the two families, in anticipation of any further repercussions.

The incident comes three days after the Rapid Support Forces launched a campaign to combat “negative phenomena” in public places and markets in El Daein, the state capital.

Incidents of armed robbery have increased in East Darfur State as a result of the proliferation of weapons and impunity of perpetrators.
