Abu Dhabi, May 8( Darfur24)

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced on Wednesday that it does not recognize the decision of the Sudanese authorities affiliated with the Sudanese army to sever diplomatic relations with Abu Dhabi.

The Security and Defense Council, headed by Sudanese Army Commander Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced on Tuesday the severance of diplomatic relations with the UAE and the withdrawal of the Sudanese ambassador to Abu Dhabi after deeming it an aggressive state.

The UAE issued a statement on Wednesday saying that it does not recognize the decision of the Port Sudan Authority, as it does not represent the legitimate government of Sudan, and that the statement issued by the Security and Defense Council will not affect the solid relations between the UAE and the Republic of Sudan and their brotherly peoples.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the decision of the Port Sudan Authority – one of the warring parties in Sudan – to sever diplomatic relations with the UAE comes just one day after the International Court of Justice rejected the lawsuit filed by the Port Sudan Authority.

The ministry rejected what it called the disgraceful statements issued by the Port Sudan Authority, which are a maneuver to evade peace efforts and endeavors.

The statement added, “Sudan and its noble people need a civilian leadership independent of the military authority that puts the priorities of its brotherly people first. A leadership that does not kill half of its people and starve and displace the other half.”

The statement continued, “The UAE stands with the Sudanese people, especially the large Sudanese community residing in the UAE and Sudanese visitors, who will not be affected by the recent decisions.”

The UAE Foreign Ministry reiterated that the UAE has been at the forefront of the world’s support for Sudan over the past five decades, and that it will not hesitate to provide assistance to the Sudanese people.
