Al Daein, May 7(Darfur24)

A report from a medical team sent by the Ministry of Health in East Darfur State to the Al-Ruqaybat area in Bahr al-Arab locality revealed cases of acute watery diarrhea in the border area with South Sudan.

Last month, the emergency room in the Bahr al-Arab locality announced the spread of cholera in the Samaha administrative unit in the Al-Ruqaybat area, which borders South Sudan.

A doctor, who requested anonymity, told Darfur 24 that laboratory tests showed the cases were acute watery diarrhea, not cholera. He noted that the team submitted its report to the Ministry of Health.

The doctor indicated that the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Al Azraq Hassan Hamida, after hearing the report submitted by the team last week, developed an urgent emergency plan to confront the epidemic.

He explained that the plan included equipping medical personnel, providing the necessary medicines, an awareness program, and activating the role of health promotion. He noted that the Ministry of Health implemented a mobile clinic in the Al Raqibat area in cooperation with organizations operating in the state.

Since 2023, the Rapid Support Forces have controlled East Darfur State and announced the formation of a civilian administration in the state in October of last year.
