Al Fasher, April 12(Darfur 24)

International Relief has expressed its deep sorrow and shock over the attack launched by the Rapid Support Forces on the Zamzam camp for internally displaced persons on Friday evening, which resulted in widespread destruction of humanitarian infrastructure and casualties among its staff.

The organization said in an official statement on its website, seen by Darfur 24, that Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had breached the perimeter of the camp in North Darfur, where the organization was providing healthcare and essential humanitarian aid as the last provider of such services in the region.

It noted that the attack resulted in the complete destruction of the central market and hundreds of temporary shelters.

According to the statement, the attack “directly targeted health infrastructure with the aim of depriving displaced people of access to medical care.”

The organization explained that one of its clinics was among the facilities attacked, along with several other health facilities in El Fasher.

The organization added that the attack resulted in the deaths of nine of its staff, including doctors, ambulance drivers, and a field team leader, describing it as a “profound tragedy” for the entire organization.

The organization offered its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to all those affected by the escalating violence in the camp, stressing that it is continuing to investigate the details of the incident despite the severe security challenges.
