Powerful explosions hit the city of Merowe, northern Sudan, on Tuesday, after drones targeted military and service sites in the city.

Video posted on social media by citizens showed flames rising with the sounds of strong explosions, while the location of the last inside the city was not identified.

Command of the 19th Infantry Division in Merowe accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of being behind the drone attacks that targeted the army division’s headquarters and Merowe Dam in the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to a statement.

The statement published on the army division’s Facebook page added “the terrorist rebel forces targeted the headquarters of the 19th Infantry Division and Merowe Dam with a number of drones, which caused some damage.”

The statement reassured residents in the Northern State and Merowe Locality that the army is fully prepared and ready to deal with any emergency or any strange objects in the sky of the region.

The city of Merowe, in northern Sudan, has been subject to drone attacks over the past period, and while the army continues to accuse the RSF of being behind the attack, the latter remains silent about the accusations.
