Port Sudan, February 11(Darfur24)

The Vice President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Malik Agar, warned of moves he described as “harmful to Sudan” by the United Arab Emirates UAE in the corridors of the African Union, coinciding with the organization’s meeting next Friday.

Agar said in a press statement that the United Arab Emirates is planning to hold a special conference on the situation in Sudan on February 14, 2025, on the sidelines of the African Union summit, with the participation of international and regional organizations such as the United Nations, the African Union, the United Arab Emirates, and Ethiopia, in addition to some other countries.

He pointed out that the meeting will be held on the morning of the same day that the African Peace and Security Council meeting of presidents is held in the evening, adding that “UAE also invited Egypt to the meeting, but the Egyptian position rejects participation, and this is honorable and expected of it,” according to him.

Agar denounced what he considered the UAE’ attempt to impose its political agenda by emphasizing the participation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Ethiopian Prime Minister in the conference. He continued, “We hope that Ethiopia will take a position that takes into account common interests.”

He considered the timing of the meeting “planned and in bad faith,” indicating that it “is nothing more than an attempt to play on the regional political scene and create discussions away from Sudan’s real interest and turn it into another political bazaar,” according to him.

He stressed his categorical rejection of any initiatives or meetings held without involving Sudan to discuss its internal affairs, saying that such steps constitute a crime and a comprehensive aggression against an African country and contradict the basic principles on which the African Union is based.

Aqar stressed that the military solution is not final, but it is a necessary step to pave the way for a comprehensive political dialogue that guarantees the rights of victims and re-establishes the Sudanese state on the foundations of justice and the rule of law.

He called on the African Union to reconsider its assessments and decisions regarding Sudan, saying that Sudan will not accept any interference or manipulation of its fate or determining its political path.
