January 6, 2025 Nyala – Darfur24 Dozens of families fled from Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, to other villages and areas within the state, as well as to Chad, Libya, South Sudan and the Central African Republic, to escape the intense airstrikes launched by the Army’s aviation on the city.
The editor of “Darfur24” monitored the departure of dozens of families to the locality of Bilail east of the city, the locality of Kass west of the city, and the southern localities of the state, as well as to the localities of Ed- AlFursan, Kabum and Rihaid-Elbirdi.
The citizen Mohieldin Othman described the airstrikes as violent, indicating that they were launched late at night, causing a state of terror and panic among children, women and the elderly.
Mohyieldin told Darfur24: “While the plane flies and bombs the neighborhoods, the city falls into complete silence, and people watch the light of the shells as they fall to the ground, causing a loud noise that shakes all the buildings.”
For her part, citizen Fatima Saleh Abdallah, who lives Almataar neighborhood, said that they were forced to look for an alternative house in Alsalam neighborhood after Almataar neighborhood became one of the eastern neighborhoods most exposed to repeated aerial bombardment by warplanes.
She pointed out that the neighborhood has been targeted 11 times since the beginning of the war, the last of which was November, that resulted in a number of civilian deaths and injuries and the destruction of a number of houses, in addition to Amna Bint- Wahab Elementary School.
In the same context, Mazen Abdallah, a citizen of Nyala, expressed his deep regret for having to leave the city, in search of another place away from the sounds of shells and the anxiety of his children.
Mazen told Darfur24: “I arrived in Tina, Chad, after a week-long journey on my way to Libya, after the city witnessed four consecutive airstrikes, which forced me to leave the house with my family and seek refuge in Libya.”
The International Organization for Migration said that 43 families were displaced, at the beginning of this month, from Nyala to South and North part of it, due to the airstrikes.
The Rapid Support Forces have controlled the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, since October 2023, after fierce battles with Sudanese Army that ended with the latter’s withdrawal from the city.
