January 6, 2025 El-Fasher – Darfur 24 Doctors Without Borders(MSF) said on Monday that its activities in Zamzam camp, located 12 kilometers west of El- Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, remain suspended due to continued artillery shelling by Rapid Support Forces on the camp.

The organization announced in late December the suspension of its activities in the southern part of the camp, due to the continued heavy artillery shelling on Zamzam.

MSF official – who preferred to remain anonymous – told Darfur 24 that “the ongoing artillery shelling by Rapid Support Forces has delayed the organization’s resumption of its activities in Zamzam camp.”

The official indicated that despite the continued shelling, they are continuing their emergency activities in the camp.

He added: “Despite this temporary halt, our efforts continue to provide life-saving medical care in the rest of the camp.”

According to medical sources in the organization, two people were killed and two others were injured as a result of renewed artillery shelling on the camp last Saturday.

Since the beginning of last December, repeated shelling by Rapid Support Forces has threatened the lives of about 450,000 displaced people suffering from a severe food and health crisis in Zamzam camp in North Darfur.

The United Nations says that Darfur region is facing a horrific humanitarian crisis, with 79% of its population in need of humanitarian assistance and protection.
