December 28, 2024 Port Sudan – Darfur24 The United Arab Emirates announced its welcome of the Turkish initiative to mediate in resolving the crisis between Khartoum and Abu Dhabi.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement published by the official news agency, that the UAE is fully prepared to cooperate and coordinate with Turkish efforts and all diplomatic endeavors to end the conflict in Sudan.
Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed an initiative to mediate between Sudan and the UAE, which was welcomed by the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, while the Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sharif announced his welcome of the initiative, stressing the relations between Sudan and the UAE.
Relations between the two countries were strained a few weeks after the outbreak of the war, as Khartoum accuses Abu-Dhabi of supporting the Rapid Support Forces and supplying them with weapons.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in its statement that the UAE stresses the need for the parties to respect the obligations of the Jeddah Agreement, and indicated that the absence of the Sudanese Armed Forces from the recent Geneva negotiations is a blatant disregard for the suffering of the Sudanese, calling on all parties to return to the negotiating table.
