December 25, 2024 Khartoum – Darfur 24 A medical source at Bashayir Hospital, South of Khartoum, said today, Thursday, that MSF is considering withdrawing from the hospital following an incident last week where forces from the Rapid Support Forces opened fire on doctors last week.
The source told “Darfur 24” that “the incident occurred last Wednesday when the body of a soldier belonging to the Rapid Support Forces was brought in.After 40 minutes of confirming his death, armed individuals from the checkpoint to which the deceased belonged arrived and one of them opened fire randomly on the Emergency Department where a number of doctors, patients and companions were present.”
He confirmed that no one was injured and that the doctors evacuated the Emergency Department of patients and then the administration was notified, which suspended work until further directives from the hospital’s senior management.
He added that “work has stopped in the hospital except for the Emergency Department, with doctors not objecting to returning under all circumstances, but the organization believes that sacrificing the lives of workers is unethical and unacceptable.” He noted ongoing efforts to discuss the security situation and upcoming arrangements in the absence of protection.
