November 12, El Fasher — On Sunday, half a dozen unmarked gunmen raped four girls, including a minor, in a village northwest of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur. The victims were then taken to hospital in the city.
On Monday, at least nine people were killed when the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled residential areas of El Fasher. The RSF were allegedly continuing to target populated areas in the south and southeast of the city, causing casualties and damage to homes.
El Fasher is the last stronghold of the Sudanese army in the western Darfur region. The city, which was once a humanitarian hub, is currently experiencing intense fighting between the army and RSF, who are attempting to take it over. Over the weekend the RSF also shelled a livestock market in El Fasher, killing at least 11 civilians and injuring dozens others.
On Sunday, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that between just days last week, 7 and 9 November, an estimated 350 households were displaced from El Fasher. Residents were primarily displaced to locations within El Fasher, Tawila, and Kebkabiya localities in North Darfur, as well as across the border to Chad.
“The exodus of El Fasher residents has increased with the intensification of fighting in the city,” sources told The Sudan Tribune.
