November 10, Cairo — The U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Periello, said that an agreement has been reached between Democratic and Republican parties in the U.S. regarding the Sudan file. Allegedly Periello discussed this with Sudanese political organizations, multiple sources told Darfur24.
Both U.S. political parties also called on Periello to achieve a “breakthrough” before the end of his term, when Donald Trump takes power in January.
Periello held several meetings in Cairo with political organizations, including the Democratic Bloc and the Umma Party led by Mubarak Al-Fadil and a number of independent figures. Meetings continue to take place in Cairo between various political organizations.
Blocking Humanitarian Aid
In the last month, Periello has accused the Sudanese authorities in Port Sudan of blocking aid trucks on three occasions. Between August and October, HAC allegedly prevented 520 of the 550 humanitarian relief trucks from leaving Port Sudan to deliver life-saving aid to states across Sudan.
But the Sudanese government have just denied this. Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC), a governmental body that manages humanitarian work, has allegedly said that the accusations were part of an organized campaign targeting the commission’s efforts. They said that Periello should direct his criticism towards the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who the Sudanese army are fighting.
