November 4, Nairobi — Disturbing reports continue to be received from Sudan’s Gezira state, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday. They condemned attacks on six hospitals by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the state.

In a post on X, WHO said they were “appalled” to learn of the attacks which depleted the population’s already limited access to health care. The number of casualties is unconfirmed but two health care workers were killed, including a female doctor.

“Attacks on health care are deplorable acts of cowardice and must stop,” WHO said.

This comes as more than 170 people are allegedly missing following RSF attacks on villages in the state. Last week, the United Nations accused the RSF of “atrocious crimes”

Scores of People Missing

In Gezira, scores of people are allegedly missing following major attacks by the RSF. The RSF launched the attacks on villages in eastern, northern, and western El Gezira after Abu Aqla Keikil, the RSF commander in Gezira state, switched allegiance to the Sudanese army on Oct. 21. The death toll in the last month is said to have reached at least 200.

The UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that more than 119,000 people have fled from Gezira state amid the recent surge of violence.

Many Sudanese are posting on social media with reports on missing persons, many of them children or elderly.
