October 30, El Obeid —The city of El Obied, capital of North Kordofan, is experiencing an increasingly catastrophic humanitarian situation. The city, which is under the control of the Sudanese army, has been under siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since June, resulting in a lack of electricity and water.

Attacks by the RSF on El Obied, which borders Khartoum state, took place over the summer. A school and market was targeted, killing at least five children. The air strikes came in August when there was a wave of strikes against health facilities across Sudan.

At the start of October, at least 20 people were killed and others wounded in an attack by the RSF on the village of Al-Damukiya, east of Khor Taqat area in Shikan locality, in the countryside of El Obeid. The RSF attacked the village using 30 motorcycles.

Villages around El Obeid have now resorted to mobilizing and arming residents in the face of attacks by the RSF.

For the last week the communications and Internet network has been cut off in the city, further isolating the city’s residents, sources told Darfur24. Some are using the Starlink satellite internet networks but these are priced extremely high, and the network is subject to the control of the Sudanese army and its affiliates.

Sources told Darfur24 that health conditions in the area are dire. There have been severe outbreaks of cholera and dengue fever, and a lack of medication and health services.
