October 17, El Fasher — Residents from Dar Al Salam locality in North Darfur said there is a continued displacement of people from the town located south of El Fasher city, following battles between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the joint forces of the Sudanese army.

On Sunday, troops from the armed movements launched an attack on towns adjacent to Katala, capital of Dar Al Salam, and clashed with the RSF, before withdrawing after the arrival of RSF military reinforcements.

The Peace Emergency Room said on its official Facebook page that the Dar Al Salam area is witnessing a large wave of displacement of civilians to the areas of Alawna  Garyoud and Basham due to the recent incident in Katal.

Taha Abu Al Qasim, a merchant in Katal told Darfur24 that the town was looted and a number of shops and homes were burned, causing residents to flee. He said that the only rural hospital in the area is out of service, and there is an urgent need for shelters.

The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) of the International Organization for Migration reported the displacement of an estimated 371 families from Dar El Salam on Sunday.
