October 16, El Fasher — The remaining residents of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, are facing food shortages and continued artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Artillery shelling by the RSF has recently targeted internal displacement areas for those who fled from the eastern neighborhoods to the west of the city.
Humanitarian workers confirmed to Darfur24 that the RSF have recently targeted Internal Displaced Persons (IDP) settlements, including shelter centers and displaced persons’ gatherings west of El Fasher. The shelling by the RSF on displaced persons gatherings in Abu-Jarboun and Shala forced fleeing people to crowd into Zamzam camp.
Adam Suleiman, Project Manager at the Peace Bridge Organization, a humanitarian organization, told Darfur 24 of the catastrophic humanitarian situation due to the lack of food and medicine in the displaced persons’ gatherings west of El Fasher, including those who fled to Zamzam camp. Suleiman said that women and children are the most affected groups by the ongoing war and they have been forced to rely on animal feed and grass for food to survive.
The RSF shelling of El Fasher continued for the second consecutive week, resulting in dozens of casualties, most recently on Sunday and Monday, which caused the death and injury of 40 people, according to the Acting Governor of North Darfur State, Hafez Bakhit.
