October 15, Kutum — The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have set up military checkpoints inside Kassab displacement camp, a local leader in the town of Kutum told Darfur24 on Monday.

The RSF have allegedly established more than five checkpoints around the camp and arrested a number of young men and women, accusing them of belonging to the army, assaulting the RSF, and storing weapons in the camp.

Due to the tense situation, mothers, children, the elderly, and some young people fled to the mountains and neighboring valleys, while dozens were forced to enter Kutum and stay with their families.

The commander of RSF allegedly called for urgent intervention and directed his forces to withdraw the bases. The RSF cancelled a decision to impose a curfew and prevent movement in and out of the camp about a week after announcing it to the camp’s civil leaders.

The areas of Bier- Mazza, 40 km northeast of Kutum, witnessed fierce battles on Thursday between the Joint Force of the Armed Movements and the RSF which left dozens dead, wounded and prisoners on both sides. Each party claims to control the area and inflict heavy losses on the other party, according to videos circulating on social media.
