October 15, El Daein — The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) recently banned the passage of gum, peanuts, cooking oil, sesame, livestock, millet, gold and other minerals, hibiscus and tobacco to areas controlled by the Army.
Now, the crisis of preventing the passage of these goods and products from Darfur to northern and eastern Sudan has worsened, after the failure of the pressures of the traditional administration and the RSF to reverse the decision.
A trader, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Darfur24 that the RSF in East Darfur stopped dozens of trucks and cars loaded with peanuts and bean oil on the road leading to the city of Al-Daba in the Northern State. Other trucks heading to the city of Al-Nohuod in West Kordofan State, which is controlled by the Army, were also allegedly stopped.
A local official said that mediations led by traditional administrations and traders in East Darfur failed to convince the RSF to allow the lifting of the ban on the movement of products, especially peanuts, during a meeting held in the city of El Daien on Sunday.
He told Darfur24 that allegedly the RSF had informed them that the decision was issued by the legal advisor, and that it cannot be reversed unless the advisor decides.
The decision caused a decline in the prices of the goods included in the ban, especially peanuts, which is the first export product in the states of western Sudan, and inflicted heavy losses on traders and farmers, especially in East Darfur State.
In return, the decision caused an increase in the prices of goods and food supplies coming to Darfur and Kordofan from Al-Daba in the Northern State, after trucks coming to the west of the country were stopped.
