October 15, Abu-Matariq — An armed group attacked the site of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Abu-Matariq city, East Darfur State, and opened fire on the forces’ personnel present.

The attack is likely due to the escape of a prisoner from the RSF site who was accused of killing a famous fuel trader and his friend earlier this month. Abu-Matariq, the capital of Bahr-Al-Arab locality, witnessed a wave of anger and widespread condemnation among the city’s residents after the murder of Hassan.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur24 that a group from the family of the assassinated fuel trader, Mohamed Hassan, attacked the RSF site and opened fire on the sector’s buildings in protest against the escape of the accused, who is a member of the RSF.

A member of the local administration told Darfur24 that they intervened to calm the situation. The armed group was removed from the RSF quarters, without any casualties among the forces or the attackers.
