October 14, Kampala — The intelligence of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in South Darfur launched a wide-scale arrest campaign against civilians in the town of Mershing on various charges including cooperation and coordination with the Sudanese army and belonging to the National Congress Party, sources told Darfur24.

A number of detainees arrived in Nyala on Saturday evening, including a former commissioner named Al-Zain Omar Abdel-Mawla.

Younis Adam Abdel-Shakur, a relative of detainee Al-Zain Omar, told Darfur24 that the RSF’s military intelligence arrested a number of civilians in Mershing market, as well as homes and farms, and they were transferred to Manawashi on Thursday, before being transferred to Nyala later.

The RSF control South Darfur State, which includes the locality of Mershing and Manawashi, which was used by the army command as the headquarters of the 61st Infantry Brigade before it fell into the hands of the Rapid Support Forces in June 2023.
