October 14, El Fasher — Fierce battles took place in the town of Katal, nearly 70km south of El Fasher, on Sunday between the joint forces of the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

A source told Darfur24 that he witnessed an attack launched by the army on a checkpoint of the RSF where they had established a base to prevent food and fuel from reaching the city of El Fasher. Battles took place until Sunday afternoon but the number of civilian casualties has not yet been confirmed.

A civil leader in the town of Shangil-Tobaya, southwest of El Fasher, confirmed that they heard the sounds of heavy gunfire towards the southeast of the town and that farmers returned to the town in fear. Other sources told Darfur24 that they witnessed celebrations for the return of the army in El Fasher.
