October 14, El Geneina — The authorities in El Geneina, capital of West Darfur State, seized large quantities of medicines and food items on Sunday in a campaign carried out in the city’s markets.

The city of El Geneina is witnessing great chaos in the drug trade, as some medicines come from the western border and are sold on the ground in a local market.

The Executive Director of El Geneina Locality, Issa Hammad, said in a press statement that the authorities carried out a major seizure campaign that included the city’s markets, pharmacies and medical agencies. He stated that the campaign revealed that pharmacies were not adhering to official regulations in selling medicines to citizens.

Investigation by Darfur24 indicated that most of the medicines and food items that came from Khartoum were expired.

West Darfur is run by a civilian administration formed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which took control of the state in November 2023.
