October 11, Nyala — On Thursday, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) authorities in South Darfur State accused the Port Sudan government, affiliated with the army, of obstructing the arrival of a high-level United Nations mission, which was scheduled to visit Nyala to assess the humanitarian situation.
The UN delegation headed by the Humanitarian Coordinator, Toby Harward, and other humanitarian agencies, had visited Al-Geneina and Zalingei in West and Central Darfur, and was on its way to Nyala on Thursday, but the visit was postponed after the authorities in South Darfur had not prepared to receive the delegation.
In press statements, the head of the civil administration in the state, Mohamed Ahmed Hassan, said the delegation was “surprised by the postponement of the visit as a result of the intervention of the Port Sudan government.”
The Director of the Sudanese Agency for Relief and Humanitarian Operations in the state, Issa Al-Fadil, said that the agency had been following up with the UN mission but they were surprised by instructions from the UN office in Port Sudan for the mission to return to the city of Zalingei, the capital of Central Darfur State.
