October 11, Kutum — There has been a significant wave of displacement of residents from North Kutum to Kassab Camp for the displaced, community leader Yousif Sharafalaldin told Darfur24. Recent clashes in the area north of Kutum have forced residents to flee.
Sharafalaldin said the recorded number of displaced people was over 18,000 and that some villages were burned by armed groups allied with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) after looting them.
The areas of Bier- Mazza, 40 km northeast of Kutum, witnessed fierce battles between the Joint Forces of Armed Movements and the RSF last week, leaving dozens dead, wounded and captured from both sides. Each side claims to control the area and inflict heavy losses on the other side, according to videos circulating on social media.
