October 8, Forbaranga — Residents in Forbaranga locality in West Darfur State affected by the floods and torrents complained about the growing spread of disease vectors in the shelters.
The floods swept away several residential areas and have destroyed thousands of homes, forcing residents to live in schools and government facilities. These shelters, which host hundreds of families, are experiencing an increasingly critical health situation, which the spread of the disease and a lack of available medicines.
Residents told Darfur24 that malaria, watery diarrhea and infections are the most common diseases.
The Al-Nibras Charitable Society created a treatment camp for those affected by the floods and torrents in the shelters. The director of the organization, Ammar Abdulrahman Mohammed, told Darfur24 that this intervention came as a prompt response and precaution to combat epidemics and disease vectors inside the shelters.
Sources had previously reported to Darfur24 that there were four suspected cases of cholera in Forbaranga locality, but the health authorities were unable to confirm them due to the difficulty of communicating with the federal laboratories.
