October 3, El Daein — The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Abu Karinka locality of East Darfur state launched a wide-scale arrest campaign on Wednesday, sources told Darfur24.

The arrests included two employees of the Zakat chamber, including the Director of the Projects Department at the Zakat Office, Musa Taks, following a meeting in El Daein. They were allegedly charged with transgression and embezzlement.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur24 that a heavily armed vehicle forcibly also arrested porters Zahir Abdul Jabbar and Fathi Fadlallah Abu Khair from inside the Abu Karinka market on charges of incitement against the RSF. Two traders were also arrested in the market.

Since the decisions of the Governor of East Darfur at the end of September to freeze work and close government institutions, East Darfur state has been witnessing a state of instability with the absence of an administrative and executive government. The RSF had announced the formation of a civil administration in the state.
