October 1, El Fasher — Fierce battles erupted on Tuesday between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the town of Mado, located approximately 30 kilometres northeast of the city of Mellit, North Darfur.

Sources in Mellit confirmed hearing sounds of heavy weapons and plumes of smoke rising from the sites of the clashes. Accounts affiliated with the RSF published videos on social media showing soldiers affiliated with the army who were captured during the battles.

The leader of the Justice and Equality Movement affiliated with the army, Mohamed Adam, said in a post on his Facebook page that their forces achieved a victory over the RSF on Tuesday in the northeastern axis of North Darfur State.

A military source in the army’s joint forces told Darfur24 that dozens of combat vehicles arrived in North Darfur State to lift the siege imposed on the city of El Fasher since last April.

El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, is witnessing fierce battles between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, leaving thousands dead and displaced.
