October 1, Port Sudan — The governor of East Darfur State, Mohamed Adam Abdel Rahman has issued a decree from his residence in Port Sudan suspending the work of civil service and government institutions, as well as stopping fee collection for crop and livestock markets, the stock exchange, and administrative fees.

In a statement obtained by Darfur24, Rahman said that the decision was based on “the chaos that occurred in East Darfur State with the announcement of the so-called civil administration, which has no basis in the constitution or Sudanese laws.”

On Thursday, a committee affiliated with the RSF appointed Mohamed Khater as head of the civil administration in East Darfur State and picked Issa Abdel Karim Abuh as head of the state’s civil foundation council. The committee and community leaders are holding consultations to complete the rest of the governance and authority structures in the state.

The RSF took control of East Darfur State back in November 2023.
