October 1, Kulbus — Dozens of families from the city of Kulbus in West Darfur State fled on Monday to Sudanese refugee camps in eastern Chad, escaping expected clashes between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the joint forces of the army.
Local community leaders, including some from the RSF, had given the army a deadline of Tuesday to remove their forces from inside the city. Posts on social medias showed convoys of army military vehicles on the outskirts of Kulbus.
Fierce battles took place between the RSF and the army on Monday in the Umm area, east of the Kulbus locality. These are the first confrontations to take place in West Darfur State since the RSF took control of it in November 2023.
Due to more expected clashes, families were seen leaving on foot and donkey-drawn carts to the Chadian border.
