September 30, Umm Dafouq — Sudanese refugees in the Central Africa Republic are complaining of sexual exploitation by aid workers in the camps of the city of Birao, located about 60 kilometers from Sudan’s western border with the Central African Republic.
Muhammad Ali, a Sudanese refugee who returned from the city of Borao in the Central African Republic to Umm Dafouq in Sudan, told Darfur24 that local aid workers from the Central African Republic working in relief organizations practice all kinds of human rights violations against refugees, including sexual exploitation of refugee women in exchange for food.
He said that the authorities in charge of the refugee camp in the city of Birao informed them that trucks loaded with aid had broken down and food supplies had been stolen. He said that the last food supplies to reach the camp were in July and dozens of families have to decided to leave the camp for other destinations.
The Central African Republic (CAR) has been receiving thousands of Sudanese refugees since the conflict in Sudan began in mid-April 2023. At the end of August, there were 14,447 refugees in Korsi, a settlement in Birao town.
