September 27, Khartoum — On Thursday, the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan “Hemeti” Dagalo, said he was ready for cease fire in Sudan to allow the passage of humanitarian aid in a recorded message to the United Nations General Assembly.
He also said the RSF was ready to start talks that would lead to a comprehensive political solution and the establishment of a civilian government. But he rejected the participation of the head of Sudan’s army in the current UN meetings in New York, saying that he “refuses to grant legitimacy to the coup leader.” Hemeti said that General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s invitation to the UN “serves the agenda of advocates of the ongoing war in Sudan, as well as encouraging military coups and the growth of dictatorships in the African continent.”
Meanwhile, at the General Assembly Burhan said that he supported efforts to bring an end to the war as long as they brought an end to the “occupation” of territory by the RSF. “We are proceeding to defeat and dislodge these aggressors, no matter how much assistance and support they find,” he said.
