September 26, Kassala — Large plastic caravans have been set up in the western courtyard of Kassala Teaching Hospital isolation centers for those infected with cholera.
Zain Al-Abidin Ali, a doctor at the cholera isolation center, told Darfur24 that the state has witnessed an unprecedented hike in the number of infections, especially among children and the elderly.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health in Kassala State recorded 141 new cases of infection. Staff at the Kassala Teaching Hospital said there were over 260 cases being hospitalized on Wednesday.
This month, the United Nations reported that over three million children were at risk of cholera. A vaccination campaign had been started in Kassala.
