September 24, Al-Daba — The local authorities of Al-Daba in the Northern State issued a decision to close schools at various levels and markets in all administrative units starting from Tuesday until next Saturday.
The Executive Director of the locality, Mohamed Saber Mohamed Ahmed, said in statement to local media that the decision came to limit the spread of cholera.
He pointed out that the decision came after a broad meeting between the Security Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, Health Affairs, and the Education administration. Pharmacies and bakeries can remain open.
The Ministry of Health revealed on Sunday that cholera cases had risen to 12,896 infections, including 388 deaths, as the epidemic spread in 54 localities located in 10 states.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced last week that more than three million children are at risk of cholera and other deadly diseases in Sudan.
