September 23, Nouakchott — Al-Hilal Football Club of Sudan has qualified for the group stage, after winning on 1-0 Sunday evening against the Ivorian club San Pedro in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
Al-Hilal are a well-known Sudanese powerhouse having won 29 league titles and finished twice as runners-up in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, the continent’s biggest club competition. They have played in Tanzania for the last season due to the ongoing war in Sudan.
The only goal of the match was scored by player Mohamed Abdelrahman in the second minute of the first half.
The team qualified on a 3-2 goal aggregate and join Tanzania’s Young Africans SC as the only teams from the CECAFA Zone that will play in the group stage.
