September 23, Nyala  — Three sources affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) confirmed to Darfur24 that a huge cargo plane landed at Nyala’s airport at dawn on Saturday. The plane allegedly carried wounded people, including an RSF commander, and took off without either them knowing its destination. Upon landing, the plane unloaded a large shipment.

Another RSF source told Darfur24 that the plane had carried some of the wounded for the purpose of transporting them for treatment abroad.

Darfur24 also learned from eyewitnesses near the airport that the RSF had renovated the airport runway days before the aircraft landed.

Hussein, an RSF fighter, told Darfur24 that the forces had increased deployment and equipment to guard the airport from all sides and prevented access after the Geneva talks held in August.

Darfur24 exclusively published the news of a cargo plane landing at Nyala Airport early Saturday morning for the first time since the outbreak of the conflict.

Eyewitnesses said they saw a convoy of military vehicles belonging to the RSF, accompanied by a number of large trucks, heading towards the airport in the middle of the night before the plane landed. The RSF have controlled the city of Nyala since last October.
