September 23, El Fasher — At least 27 people were killed and dozens were injured during three days of artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the Hajar Gaddo market in El Fasher, capital of North Darfur.
The artillery shelling came in the wake of the clashes on Thursday after the Sudanese army and the allied forces announced that they had inflicted heavy losses on the RSF.
Adam Ismail, a spice merchant in the Hajar Gaddo market, said that the bombing on Friday left eight dead. On Saturday, 17 people were killed, and Sunday, two people were also killed by the shelling. Traders and vegetable sellers closed their shops completely.
Medical sources at the Saudi Hospital and the Medical Corps reported on Monday that they received dozens of wounded people.
Previous shelling by the RSF put another adjacent market, Umm Dafso, out of service.
The RSF has been launching attacks on El Fasher since May 10, in an attempt to seize the last stronghold of the army in Darfur.
