September 21, El Fasher — Approximately 12 civilians were killed and others injured on Saturday, following new artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on El Fasher, capital of North Darfur.
The city of El Fasher is witnessing a dire security situation these days due to the ongoing clashes between the warring parties since last week. On Friday, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed grave alarm over reports of a full-scale assault on El Fasher and called for an immediate halt to attacks.
Maryam Ismail, a tea seller, told Darfur24 that Hajar Gaddo market witnessed the killing of at least 12 people today, including two tea sellers around the Cultural Complex. She reported that other injuries were taken to the Saudi hospital and the Medical Corps.
Medical sources at the Saudi Hospital and the Medical Corps confirmed to Darfur24 that dozens of people were wounded as a result of the shelling, and others wounded.
The joint forces affiliated with the Army announced that they had repelled an attack by the RSF on several fighting fronts in the city of El Fasher, inflicting heavy losses.
The RSF have been launching attacks on El Fasher since May 10, in an attempt to seize the last stronghold of the army in Darfur.
