September 21, Nyala — Local residents said that a cargo plane landed at Nyala International Airport in South Darfur State at dawn on Saturday.
The residents told Darfur24 that the plane coming from the southern direction of the city landed at around 3am. Residents in eastern neighborhoods of the city were terrified, mistaking it for a military plane belonging to the army coming to bomb the city.
The plane, which landed at dawn today, was the first of its kind to land at the city’s airport since the outbreak of the war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) .Eyewitnesses said that they spotted a convoy of military vehicles belonging to the RSF, accompanied by a number of large trucks, heading towards the airport in the middle of the night before the plane landed. The RSF have controlled Nyala since last October.
The army’s warplanes have continued to target the city of Nyala, as an airstrike carried out last week killed more than eight people and injured dozens others.
