September 18, Abu Jibeha — The General Intelligence Service in the city of Abu Jibeha, South Kordofan, arrested another activist Alaa El-Din Hassan on Wednesday, without stating the reasons, sources told Darfur24.
Allegedly authorities have not yet provided any details about the arrest or the potential charges against him. Sources speculated that the arrest was due to posts on Facebook in which he supported his friend Ahmed Al-Tijani, who is also detained by the security services due to a Facebook post.
Ahmed Al-Tijani is still detained by the General Intelligence Service since his earlier arrest, and the authorities are still holding his personal phone, without clarifying the reasons. He had been arrested in front of the hospital in the city of Abu Jibeha, South Kordofan State in early September.
One of his relatives told Darfur24 that the investigations focused on accusing him of working against the state, due to a post on his personal Facebook page in which he criticized the threats made by the Intelligence Service to the Sudanese Doctors Association in America (SAPA).
The General Intelligence Service had summoned the member of the Preparatory Committee of the Doctors Syndicate and the coordinator of SAPA, Dr. Ali Bashir, where he was threatened with stopping the support provided by SAPA to Abu Jibeha Hospital and its medical staff and workers.
