September 19, Al-Tina — At the start of this week, the Chadian authorities began checking the identities of Sudanese entering the country through the Al-Tina border crossing, which is under the control of the Sudanese army and allied movements.
This came hours after Chad deployed military reinforcements in border areas with Sudan, in the face of reports of the Chadian opposition trying to enter. There were reports surrounding the departure of Chadian opposition leader Othman Dilo, who is fighting with the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Arko Minawi faction in El Fasher, following the escalation of the fighting.
Since the outbreak of the war. thousands of Darfur citizens have fled to Chad to escape the fighting, especially in West Darfur State.
At the border town of Al-Tina, the Chadian army has begun checking identification documents of individuals moving between the two countries and allowing refugees to cross the border smoothly without harassment.
A Sudanese military source in the region, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed to Darfur24 that new measures were taken by the Chadian army against the movement across the border, where it tightened security measures by conducting aerial operations with warplanes over the entire border strip.
Last week, the Chadian army deployed forces from the Chadian capital, N’Djamena, towards the border with Sudan, and hardened security measures on the border after deploying hundreds of soldiers and heavy military vehicles on the strip between the two countries.
The source said that members of the armed movements were prevented from entering the Chadian town of Tina, which is only two kilometers from the Sudanese border. Previously only soldiers from the Sudanese armed movements were allowed in combat vehicles to shop and buy necessities.
