September 17, Nyala — Several people were killed and 16 others injured in an airstrike carried out by army warplanes on the city of Nyala, capital of South Darfur state, according to eyewitnesses.

This is the second airstrike on the city, which is controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), in less than a week.

According to eyewitnesses, an Antonov plane dropped two explosive barrels on the industrial area of Nyala. The remains of people were collected near the Nyala railway station market, adjacent to the site of the aerial bombardment.

Medical sources at Nyala Teaching Hospital revealed to Darfur24 that the hospital received 16 wounded citizens with shrapnel injuries. Security sources revealed that one of the barrels targeted a site for army detainees, where a number were injured and died.

The RSF fired ground anti-aircraft guns at the plane during the raid, but were unable to shoot it down.
