September 13, El Fasher — On Thursday, the Sudanese army said it had repelled a major attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on El Fasher, North Darfur, inflicting heavy losses in lives and equipment on the attacking troops.
They claim the battle killed 80 RSF fighters, wounding dozens others and destroy 20 vehicles. The RSF had launched the attack on the southern and eastern parts of the city on Thursday morning which lasted until early evening.
“The armed forces, the joint force and the heroes of the popular resistance in El Fasher today wrote a new epic by repelling a major attack,” army spokesman Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah Abdullah said in a statement.
The Sudan Tribune reported that social media pages affiliated with the RSF mourned the deaths of several commanders killed in the fighting, including Abdul Rahman Qarn Shata, a prominent field commander and media figure.
