September 12, Nyala — Sudanese army warplanes have renewed their airstrikes on Nyala, capital of South Darfur, after they had been halted for over a month. On Thursday afternoon, an Antonov aircraft launched a strike, dropping two explosive barrels off the eastern part of Al-Jir neighborhood, west of the army command in Nyala, in addition to another south of the city.
Sources told Darfur 24 that the aircraft dropped two shells in the Khor Umm Qalba Nar area between Al-Jir neighborhood and the command. No-one was reported to be injured but the strikes caused panic among citizens. Sources also told Darfur24 that many patients had to evacuate hospitals and clinics in the city center due to the strikes.
In recent weeks, the Rapid Support Force Intelligence Service launched a campaign of arrests against a number of people accused of allocating targets for military aircraft to bomb Nyala .
