September 11, Rehid Al-Birdi — Seven people were killed and 300 livestock died as heavy rains and floods hit the town of Rahid Al-Bardi in South Darfur. The area has been cut off from the state capital Nyala for over a month, Sudanese Relief agency official Al-Sharif Suwar Ali said.
150 farms were damaged and nearly 1300 acres swept away by the floods, Al-Sharif told Darfur24. He also complained about the widespread spread of conjunctivitis, especially among children and the elderly, in addition to high rates of malaria according to reports received from Raheed Al-Bardi Hospital.
Youssef Hussein Omar, head of the civil administration in Raheed Al-Bardi, said the area is still housing displaced people who fled from Nyala and other towns.
There is a scarcity of life-saving medicines at the town’s hospital due to the area’s cut-off from the state capital for over a month.
