September 7, Katila — Floods and heavy rains hit Katila in South Darfur and destroyed 500 homes and government facilities including health offices and schools, Jaafar Abdullah Ibrahim, head of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Civil Administration told Darfur24. Many were forced to flee their homes.

Al-Baqir Hussein Musa, Katila resident, told Darfur 24 that they have been “in a cycle of continuous suffering as a result of the floods that have been repeated in the city.” Another resident, Ahmed Zayed said that the water was being contaminated and that mosquitos were widespread.

The local government of Katila launched an urgent appeal calling for  humanitarian organizations to intervene in the flooding crisis.
